Club Deportivo Unión Sur Yaiza will pay tribute this Sunday to the memory of “Guayo” Rodríguez Caraballo, a resident of the municipality, passionate about sports and a figure closely linked to the verdillo club, with the celebration of a minute of silence authorized by the Competitions Department of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). The act will take place before the start of the match corresponding to matchday 31 of the league championship, which will pit the local team against Real Madrid “C”, at 11:30 a.m. at the Municipal Field of Yaiza.
The southern entity, in compliance with the seventeenth provision of the Regulatory Norms and Competition Bases of this season, sent the official request to carry out this gesture of respect and remembrance. The federative authorization was confirmed this Wednesday, thus allowing the club and its fans to say goodbye to an endearing person closely linked to CD Unión Sur Yaiza.
“Guayo” Rodríguez Caraballo was a staunch defender of the green colors, a regular collaborator with media outlets as a commentator and narrator of the team's matches, and, currently, a councilor of the Yaiza City Council. Despite his public responsibilities, he never neglected his involvement with the club, even narrating matches during this season for the Autonomous Radio of the Canary Islands, with which he maintained a sporadic collaboration.
In an emotional twist of fate, this Sunday's rival will be precisely Real Madrid “C”, a team that “Guayo” always declared himself a fan of. A coincidence that reinforces the symbolic value of the tribute and further unites his legacy to this important date for the club.
CD Unión Sur Yaiza also wanted to extend its recognition to Guayo's family, with a posthumous distinction in his memory, as a sign of gratitude for all the support, affection and dedication he showed over the years towards the entity. His involvement, always selfless, makes him part of the club's history, like so many other figures who have left an indelible mark on the verdillo heart.
With this simple but heartfelt act, CD Unión Sur Yaiza invites its fans, the municipality and the world of sports to remember and honor a person who, with his voice, his passion and his commitment, became an important pillar of the municipality. This Sunday, the green will have an even deeper meaning.
