In the course of a solemn ceremony held this Friday at the headquarters of the Canary Islands Council of Bar Associations, located in the Illustrious Bar Association of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Carlos Enrique Viña Romero, current Dean of the Illustrious Bar Association of Lanzarote, took office as the new president of said Council.
During the event, the new president wanted to thank the various authorities, colleagues and friends who attended, including Juan Luis Lorenzo Bragado, President of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands; Demetrio Pintado Marrero, Prosecutor of the Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands; Carla Vallejo Torres, Deputy Minister of Justice of the Government of the Canary Islands; Mónica Ceballos Hernández, General Director of Relations with the Administration of Justice; Agustina Ortega Cabrera, Provincial Coordinating Secretary of Las Palmas; and María Auxiliadora Díaz Velázquez, Magistrate, among many other colleagues and friends.
Likewise, Carlos Viña had words of gratitude for the outgoing president, Juan Antonio Rodríguez, from whom he praised that, despite the exceptional circumstances of his mandate, his ability to prioritize before a complicated situation always in benefit and for the profession.
In his speech, the new president of the Canary Islands Council of Bar Associations highlighted "the essential role of lawyers in our society and in Democracy", emphasizing that "it is always based on respect with the different administrations and of these towards the legal profession".
To conclude, Carlos Enrique Viña Romero expressed "his firm and determined support for free legal aid and the Duty Shift", recognizing "the fundamental role of the lawyers of the Canary Islands fighting every day twenty-four hours three hundred and sixty-five days a year"
