The Women and Gender Violence Victim Assistance Service of the Canary Islands Government Coordinating Center for Emergencies and Security (Cecoes 1-1-2) received 1,156 calls in 2022 from Lanzarote, 7.3% more than the previous year, when 1,077 calls were registered from the island, according to reports from the Lanzarote Data Center.
August and October were the months in which the highest number of incidents were recorded in Lanzarote with 142 and 131 calls respectively. In July, 112 calls were received by the Women Victims of Violence Assistance Service, while in December there were 97 and in April and June, 94.
Of the 142 incidents of gender violence recorded in August 2022 on the island, 97 were emergencies, "situations of imminent danger to the life, property and/or rights of people, as specified by the Lanzarote Data Center. Of the remaining, 26 were urgent, "subjective situation that requires attention, and may be prioritized", and 19 were information. The report also states that, of those 142 incidents, 5 were for physical violence with sexual assault, 66 for physical violence without sexual assault, another 64 for non-physical violence, four for consultation, two for coordination and one undefined.
As for the municipalities of Lanzarote that registered the most calls to 112 during August 2021 were Arrecife, Yaiza, Tías and Teguise, with 78, 22, 17 and 16 respectively. In the same month of the year, six calls were recorded in San Bartolomé, two in Haría and one in Tinajo.
Decrease of 2.4% in the Canary Islands as a whole
In the Canary Islands as a whole, the number of requests attended to by the Women's Violence Assistance Service has decreased however in this 2022 by 2.4%, with a total of 15,105 incidents registered compared to the 15,473 that were registered in 2021.
The island with the highest number of gender violence incidents registered in 2022 was Tenerife with 6,673 calls registered, Gran Canaria with 5,686 and Lanzarote with 1,156. As for Fuerteventura, it registered 894 incidents, La Palma 589, La Gomera 80 and El Hierro 47.
