For his part, the author of the book expressed his gratitude to the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the associations present and recalled that the idea for the book was born after the "talks that Braulio gave (and continues to give) in the schools of the island, and that it is aimed at "all those who have people with functional diversity close to them."
"We are beings made to love and I ask that you respect us as people," he expressed during a heartwarming presentation in which he thanked his parents and his sister for everything he had learned and experienced," concluding by paraphrasing the French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry in The Little Prince: "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."
The author himself was present at the event, along with the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort; the Minister of Social Welfare, Marciano Acuña; Nuria Rodríguez, representing the 'Creciendo Yaiza' association, and the president of AFOL, Carmen Arrocha.
Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted that "it is a great honor to collaborate with Braulio Betancort in this project in order to make the group visible and it is a pride for the Cabildo to be part of the dissemination about and for people with functional diversity", and invited the entire population to "take part in the change" in society and the inclusion policies that are being promoted by the Institution.
In the same vein, the Minister of Social Welfare, Marciano Acuña, thanked Braulio Betancort for the work of dissemination and awareness that he carries out through this very personal publication, as well as 'AFOL' and 'Creciendo Yaiza', associations that work side by side with administrations and families to improve the quality of life and conditions of all these people.
It should be noted that the funds from the sales of his book, whose new edition consists of 750 copies, will be donated by Braulio Betancort to 'Creciendo Yaiza' and 'AFOL', with the aim that they can continue to play such an important role in the social fabric of the Island.
