The Arrecife City Council has decided to maintain the Cavalcade of Magi on January 5, which was in doubt given the explosion of infections on the island. "After assessing the impact of the situation generated by Covid-19 and establishing an itinerary that guarantees the celebration of this traditional show in an appropriate way, we have decided to carry out this event so awaited by the little ones in the house," said the mayor, Ástrid Pérez, after the meeting held this Monday at the Consistory.

Thus, the Cavalcade of the Three Wise Men of Arrecife will take place with "some modifications" due to the coronavirus pandemic, but will maintain "the usual essence of this act".

In this way, Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar, the herald and the royal emissary, in addition to the pages that accompany each of the Magi will parade along the main avenue of the island's capital, accompanied by five floats, a parranda that will open the procession and another that will close it as musical accompaniment to the event, as well as stilt walkers, dolls and other dynamization elements that will liven up the route.

The parade will begin at 6:00 p.m. from the Arrecife City Hall to the Fairgrounds, where the monarchs' tour will end around 8:00 p.m., reversing the route initially established.

On this occasion, due to preventive measures as a result of Covid-19, participants in the royal parade will not be able to have contact with the public, nor will the Kings be able to hand out candy, as has been customary to date.

Likewise, the Arrecife City Council asks citizens to "heed the recommendations and health guidelines to avoid the transmission of Covid-19 in events with a large influx of people, such as the correct use of masks, hand hygiene, maintaining physical distance, maximizing ventilation and outdoor activities and minimizing the number of contacts".
