The Noise Pollution Platform of Arrecife has launched a strong message to the mayor and all political parties with municipal representation: the city "cannot become an event capital at the expense of the health and rest of its inhabitants."

The group denounces that the council, in its eagerness to "revitalize" the city, is violating the legislation on noise pollution and organizing "disproportionate and inconsiderate" activities, such as the macro-concert scheduled for this April 26, with eight consecutive performances from 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. a few meters from homes.

"The right to rest is not compatible with 11 hours of music at full volume," the platform emphasizes, recalling that babies, the elderly, the sick and workers live in those houses who cannot "escape" the noise. In addition, they criticize that the problem is not only the concerts, but the sum of traffic, terraces, cleaning trucks and other noises that turn the city into a sound hell.

Deaf institutions, desperate neighbors

The platform demands that the political forces "comply with the law" and look for suitable locations for events without disturbing the population. "It is not worth moving the problem from one neighborhood to another," they insist. In addition, they are calling on citizens to join their demands and the legal actions they are preparing.

"We want a friendly city, not a party theme park," they say. While the City Council promotes Arrecife as the "event capital", its residents wonder: who defends their right to sleep?
