The Arrecife City Council, through the Social Services Area, is deploying messages in the days leading up to Christmas to prevent covid 19 infections, especially in the elderly population, as they are the most prone to possible infections.
The mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, together with the councilor for Social Services, Immigration and Equality, and spokesperson for the PP, María Jesús Tovar, visited several groups of the Third Age of Arrecife this Friday morning who carry out didactic activities in the classrooms or Senior centers that the Arrecife City Council has in the neighborhoods of Titerroy, Altavista and La Destila. The meetings in these groups of the third age have been subject to preventive measures, and the meetings have participated in the three visits, groups of less than 10 people.

In these meetings, where the distribution of masks made by the City Council has also been reinforced, the mayor and the councilor have made an appeal to the elderly population to redouble preventive measures in these upcoming Christmas, New Year's Eve and Kings festivities, to continue controlling infections in Arrecife, the most populous nucleus, and the entire island of Lanzarote
The Arrecife City Council has deployed an initiative this December to help and prevent possible covid 19 infections among the elderly population residing in the capital of Lanzarote.
The initiative, which was launched since December 1, has been promoted by the Senior Citizens Area within the Department of Social Services, Equality and Immigration of the Arrecife City Council, and is raising awareness among families about the need to reinforce care and prevention of infections in the elderly population.
In December, given the foreseeable arrival of a third wave of the pandemic, and the arrival of winter, and the return of many people from other Islands or the Peninsula, processes of possible infections in the elderly population may be frequent, they are more vulnerable and prone to covid 19.

The campaign, which is having wide dissemination on radio stations, digital media, local televisions, outdoor advertising on the City Council's supports distributed on the Avenue, and the lettering of the Municipal Buses, has the message “Protect yourself, Protect them”.
The Arrecife City Council has distributed about 4,000 washable masks in these weeks, personalized with the image of the Puente de las Bolas. The distribution has been among senior citizens groups, neighborhood associations and senior centers.
On the morning of this past Friday, personnel from the Social Services Area, together with these visits, reinforced the distribution of more masks among the elderly.

Astrid Pérez and María Jesús Tovar stressed that now, with the arrival of winter and the Christmas holidays, many elderly people will meet with their families, where measures must be taken to avoid possible covid infections. The mayor of Arrecife and the councilor for Social Services have remarked that "now more than ever we must take care of the people who took care of us. Promoting this generational interaction".
In the meetings with the elderly in these three Third Age centers, the mayor has taken the opportunity to wish all those present, on behalf of the Municipal Corporation of Arrecife, a happy Christmas and New Year 2021.
