The parish of San Ginés Obispo in Arrecife is already immersed in celebrating the events scheduled for this Holy Week. On Holy Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., the celebration of the Holy Mass took place, presided over by the parish priest Miguel Hernández, who was assisted by three fellow priests.
Once finished, the procession of the Holy Encounter proceeded. This procession was rescued in 2009 by the current parish priest after several years without touring the streets of the city. First, the throne carrying the image of the Nazarene with the Cross on his back left the parish temple, accompanied by the images of the Magdalene, Veronica, and Saint John. Heading the processional route were the 40 members of the Music Band "La Unión Musical de Lanzarote", directed by Professor Pepe Artiles.
A few minutes later, the image of Our Lady of Sorrows also left the parish temple, flanked by the disciples of the Virgin, who wore the White Mantilla. The thrones with the images advanced through different streets until reaching La Plazuela, where the Holy Encounter of Jesus the Nazarene with his mother Our Lady of Sorrows took place, a moment in which all those present with great recollection were attentive to the intervention of the priest who was narrating everything that the Holy Scriptures collect. Just as that Encounter occurred when Jesus was on his way to Calvary.
Once the intervention was finished, the images, accompanied by the parishioners, headed back to the parish temple, and while they were entering, the members of the Music Band performed several compositions of their own for the occasion.
David Duarte, Councilor for Festivities and Police, present at the event, made a sound system available to the parish so that everyone present at the moment of the Holy Encounter in La Plazuela could listen to the intervention carried out by the priest.
