Following the alert situation due to adverse weather phenomena activated by the Canary Islands Government, the Technical Office of the Arrecife City Council has designed an action and prevention protocol in which various areas of the Consortium are coordinated, which in turn will be in contact with the security forces.

In addition, as in other municipalities, sports and extracurricular activities have been suspended. The Consortium has also distributed 2,000 sacks of sand to prevent flooding in shops and homes.

With this municipal protocol, the areas of Cleaning, Roads and Works, Security and Parks and Gardens are coordinated "in order to avoid incidents in the capital." The City Council also coordinates with the local and national police, the Civil Guard and Civil Protection volunteers.

2,000 sacks of sand distributed in "strategic points"

The Councilor for Roads and Works, Manuel Hernández, explained that, given this storm, "2,000 sacks of 25 kilos of sand have been distributed during Monday and Tuesday morning to prevent possible flooding in shops and homes in the capital." They have been distributed in "strategic points" of the capital as "a preventive measure against the locally heavy showers and storms that are expected in Lanzarote in the next few hours."

For his part, the head of Urban Planning, Samuel Martín, adds that "although Canal Gestión already said at the time that they are cleaning the drains, we are checking that there is no problem." "Likewise, we have proceeded to clean and remove the dirt and leaves that may have accumulated," added the councilor.

On the other hand, the capital City Council has also reported the closure of all municipal facilities, in view of the communication from the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government declaring an alert for adverse phenomena throughout the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands.

"In this way, any extracurricular and/or complementary activity is canceled while the alert situation is maintained. Likewise, all sports facilities, socio-cultural centers, the Civic Center, the Youth Center will remain closed," explains the Consortium. For the same reason, the traditional Arrecife Market on Wednesdays will not be set up either. The Arrecife City Council has also advised "caution, not to travel by car unless strictly necessary and in case of any emergency call 112".

The capital City Council has also reported that during the early hours of Monday to Tuesday, rains of just under four liters per square meter were recorded at the Lanzarote airport station and has recalled that Aemet maintains the yellow warning for waves of four to five meters, especially to the west and north of Lanzarote for this Tuesday. The rain alert will intensify from midnight tonight and during Wednesday morning, with the warning turning orange. By then, the warning for waves is considered to be over, but the yellow warning for wind is activated, with maximum gusts of 70 kilometers per hour.
