The parish of San Ginés began the second day of the "Paschal Triduum". On Good Friday at 11 in the morning, the day began with the Via Crucis through the streets of Arrecife and the image of the Crucified Lord.
The Via Crucis or Way of the Cross is one of the ancient devotions practiced by Catholics around the world. It consists of accompanying Jesus in his Passion and Death, in his final hours, reviewing 14 moments (the 14 Stations of the Via Crucis), from when he was sentenced to death until his burial. After the tour through the streets of Arrecife at about 12 noon, the Sermon of the Seven Words began, a Catholic tradition in which the last words that Jesus Christ spoke on the Cross are reflected upon.
At 7:30 p.m., the parishioners met again in the church to participate in the events of Good Friday. It is the only day of the year that the church does not celebrate the Eucharist. The entire celebration is one of contemplation, silence, and prayer. The first reading from the book of Isaiah, the second reading from the letter to the Hebrews. The Gospel according to Saint John becomes the central axis of the celebration with the narration of the "Passion of the Lord", a reading presided over by the celebrating priest and parish priest of San Ginés, Juan Carlos Medina, with the participation of two parishioners. Another moment of recollection is the "Adoration of the Cross", where the parishioners approach and bow their heads, ending with the distribution of Holy Communion reserved from Thursday consecrated at the Last Supper. The songs were enlivened by Professor Josefina González on the piano and directed by José Manuel Clar.
At 9:00 p.m., the Great Procession of the Holy Burial began, led by the chords of the Music Band "La Unión de Lanzarote", directed by the professor, Pepe Artiles, followed by the image of the "Lying Christ" and very close to the image of Our Lady of Sorrows. Surrounded by the celebrating priest and the parishioners, they walked through the streets of Arrecife. After the procession of the Holy Burial, the members of the Music Band were located in the nave of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and performed several musical pieces that were rewarded with applause by the parishioners. Following this, the procession of Solitude took place with the image of Our Lady of Sorrows around the Plaza de Las Palmas, thus putting an end to the second day of the Paschal Triduum.
