The union section in the Tahíche Penitentiary Center of ACAIP (Association of Bodies of the Penitentiary Institutions Administration) has reported that this Tuesday, January 24, an inmate burned his mattress, without any deaths or serious injuries to regret, since the prison officials were able to assist him.
As reported by ACAIP, the events occurred at around 10:20 p.m., when inmate R. C. G., who occupies cell 7 of module 4 (the part that houses the most conflictive people deprived of liberty), set fire to the mattress and warned the officials, who at that moment were attending an overdose in the same area.
The workers went as quickly as possible to the fire and, with the help of extinguishers and autonomous extinguishing equipment, managed to put it out and get the inmate out of the cell.
As a result of smoke inhalation, both the inmate and several employees had to be treated in the center's infirmary and later, checked at the hospital, where doctors confirmed that no serious injuries have been recorded, neither in the inmate nor in the workers.
