The Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, the Lanzarote Business Confederation, Workers' Commissions, UGT and the Cabildo of Lanzarote join together in the fourth edition of the awareness campaign aimed at consumers and commercial establishments to promote work-life balance and corporate social responsibility on December 24 and 31. "In order for this measure to have a greater reach, we appeal to citizen responsibility and ask that, as far as possible, Christmas shopping be brought forward so that retail businesses can close at six in the afternoon on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve," says the Chamber of Commerce.

Two and a half hours earlier at home

The idea comes from the Island Trade Commission, which includes the Chamber of Commerce, the Business Confederation, Workers' Commissions, UGT and the Cabildo of Lanzarote. It aims to promote work-life balance on these special days when everyone wants to share the preparations with their loved ones. "Reducing the public service hours by two and a half hours can be of great help to many families and does not have to mean a loss for commercial establishments if consumers contribute by bringing forward their purchases. In addition, it represents an emotional salary incentive for workers, which in the long run has an impact on good labor relations," state the campaign organizers.

The message addressed to commercial establishments is a proposal that they can voluntarily join as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) action. Establishments that wish to do so can download the poster here and place it in their shop windows to notify their customers.

Consume Local this Christmas

In addition to bringing forward purchases, the aim is to launch an awareness message to encourage responsible local consumption: consuming in local establishments, which are the ones that generate employment and local economy. "When we buy in local establishments, we feed the logical economic cycle that generates employment and ensures the stability of Lanzarote residents," says the Chamber of Commerce.
