The Lanzarote Consumers Association (ACULANZA) has denounced in a press release "the clear discrimination" suffered by residents of Lanzarote, La Graciosa and Fuerteventura by not applying the fuel discount, as it does occur in the so-called green islands.

The group has added that the non-capital eastern islands, especially Lanzarote and La Graciosa, have been "enduring" to this day the "most expensive shopping basket and fuel price in the province of Las Palmas and, therefore, in the entire Canary Islands since 2008. As they already recalled with two caravans to buy once in Gran Canaria and another in Fuerteventura. "Our price differential was always close to 20-25% and the more any product goes up, the more it goes up for us," they explained.

For Aculanza, the announcement by the president of the Lanzarote Cabildo and regional deputy Oswaldo Betancort to request a study now, "is a real occurrence." "In the State bonus of 20 cents per liter there was no discriminator between a consumer from Lanzarote and La Graciosa, with one from La Gomera, El Hierro or La Palma."

To conclude, they have demanded that the Government of the Canary Islands, "of all Canarians, of the eight islands", "immediately reconsider" its "discriminatory" position and that it return to "treating us all equally" in the application of the fuel discount.
