Dolores Campos, the neighbor from Arrecife, whose ex best friend occupied her house, does not see the end of the ordeal she has been experiencing for five years. Now, the squatter has filed a complaint accusing her of supposedly "threatening her with death", according to the version of the one who was her friend. "She says that I insulted her in the street and told her that "I am going to cut her throat", she revealed to the newspaper very desolately.
The one who was her friend accuses Dolores of "stalking" her in the street and "banging on the door of the home", she revealed. These are some of the phrases for which the squatter, according to her version of the events, has denounced Campos. "Be careful, I have many friends on the island and be careful with the stairwell", are other phrases that she attributes to Campos.
"The accusations are false, I would not be capable of insulting her or wishing her death, despite everything she has done to me", Campos confessed, who a few weeks ago received a court summons for the holding of the oral hearing in the Court of Instruction No. 2 of Arrecife, on April 24, for alleged "serious crimes of threats". "I have to appear in a trial, in which I am accused of untrue things", she has made clear. A requirement for which "she has not been given the opportunity" to testify previously and give her point of view. "I have not been summoned to testify previously", she complains to the newspaper.
She defends "firmly her innocence", specifying that "she has not crossed paths with her again" for four years. In addition, she "doubts the credibility" of the evidence that her ex-friend will provide. "She will bring false witnesses to the trial", she pointed out. "I hope that once and for all the judges realize the reality", she wishes that this is how the events unfold.
Added to this situation is that last December she asked for help from a squatters eviction company from the Peninsula. According to Dolores, she was "scammed with the promise of getting the squatter out of her home". "I paid them 1,000 euros in advance for them to come to Lanzarote to get her out". An amount after which they asked her for another "1,500 euros" as a final payment once they managed to expel the woman from inside the house. "Don't give up now, you have achieved a lot, you will get it, you only need a push", they convinced her from the company. "Life puts us to the test many times, that's why we have to continue. We pass you the contract, you sign and we make the payment", they told her to persuade her.
After providing the money to the company, Campos contacted the manager of another well-known company, at which point she discovered that she had been deceived. "They told me that being in a situation of vulnerability, they could not do anything to get her out of my house", she revealed. The only alternative to get her house back, they let her know, would be "negotiating with the squatter", she added.
"I have not reported it for fear of reprisals", she confessed to the newspaper. In addition, according to the details provided by Campos, before the payment she signed a contract in which "they did not guarantee 100%" the effective expulsion of the squatter.
"I have not reported it for fear of reprisals", Campos declared
She also complains about the Arrecife City Council since "it has allowed" her ex-friend to register in her home. "The Local Police called me telling me that I no longer resided in my own house", she stated.
In addition, not all the neighbors in the block where Dolores lived have supported her. One of them has "colluded" with the squatter to "make her life impossible". "I lowered the light to the minimum, and the man passed her a light cable so she could have it", she assured. She remembers that because of the squatter, she "did receive threats". "They have called me and sent messages with a private number to tell me that "they are going to kill me, my family and me", she stressed. Dolores is clear that the squatter is "behind it". "She is very angry that I am fighting to kick her out and she sends me the threats through third parties", she highlighted.
Everything that has happened has made Campos "unable to get back on her feet". "I am devastated, I can hardly get out of bed", Dolores revealed. What hurts her the most is "not having support from anyone" in the whole process that she has been suffering for years. "I am alone in all this", she pointed out sadly. Her health is affected despite her great strength to fight. "I can't take sick leave for depression, they discharge me quickly", Campos concluded.
