Nearly 6,000 people enjoyed the carnival parade in Playa Blanca on Saturday. The Lanzarote "Charlot" led the lively parade of costumes, floats, batucadas and masquerades of the Playa Blanca Carnival, in which "originality, grace and the contagious atmosphere of the protagonists of the procession" predominated, as highlighted by the Yaiza City Council in a statement.
Illustrious film and comic artists, elite sports teams such as the Ferrari team, with a racing car included, peasants who fight the crisis, prisoners who were granted the particular carnival third degree, clowns, babies, marines, a walking bathtub, boats of water and asphalt, fighters of ancient cultures and a long list of characters, to which spontaneous people with a thousand costumes were added, gathered in the south of the island to have fun and entertain others.
The carnival parade ran along Avenida de Canarias, Calle Varadero and the central Avenida Papagayo, the road where most of the spectators gathered. The sound of the drums, the cadence of the "Sur Caliente" comparsa and its striking costumes was the bell that alerted the public to the imminent passage of the procession. The "No mes 13" band and the Villa Pipol, Rayo de Luna, Bentchey, Menuda Caña and Chimbay batucadas provided music to the atmosphere.
Among other fun characters, in the Playa Blanca parade you could see Mario Bros, vans full of soldiers, circus characters and rockers. In addition, a giant cake in the form of a float arrived from Tinajo "to cloy the south with enjoyment", according to the Yaiza City Council.
The Queen of the Third Age of Yaiza paraded with joy, proudly wearing her fantasy dress, and the atmosphere of the float of the municipality's elders had nothing to envy of any group of young people. It caused much admiration that the Ferrari team unveiled the F1 2012 that will compete in the world championship this season.
After that, the orchestras El Combo Dominicano and Banda Nueva took to the stage, which made everyone dance during the open-air dance.
