A 21-year-old girl from Arrecife and a student in her final year of Psychology, has set out to raise money to volunteer in Mexico with indigenous families from Chiapas. Lidia Parra aims to collaborate as a volunteer in the mission that the Clarisas Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament carry out with the indigenous communities of the country.

“This volunteer work aims to contribute my grain of sand to the mission that the Clarisas Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament carry out with the indigenous communities of Chiapas, Mexico”, says Lidia Parra, in a campaign that she has launched on the platform GoFundMe in order to be part of the cooperation project.

To travel there, she must pay for the plane tickets. “The purpose of this campaign is to raise the money necessary for the entire trip to Chiapas, which is approximately 1,500 euros”, details the young woman. She is currently close to achieving the goal with a collection that reaches 1,388 euros. "I am raising the money for the rest of the planned expenses through the sale of cookies, taking care of children and other initiatives", the girl revealed.

This congregation of missionaries with Mexican origin carries out its work in various countries such as Japan, Indonesia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Costa Rica, Mexico, Korea, India, among others. Their essential work of evangelizing throughout the world is accompanied by other very important tasks such as the creation of schools and nurseries, providing food to the most needy, medical and hospital care, care for the sick.

‘La Florecilla’ is a mission located in a mountain near San Cristóbal de las Casas, in Chiapas, where the Sisters have lived with indigenous families since 1974. There they provide education and food to children daily, run a medical dispensary, and carry out activities and efforts always with the purpose of helping and recognizing the indigenous community of the region.

“My stay in 'La Florecilla' would be a great opportunity for me to learn to offer my service to others from humility, and to soak up values from those who do not lose their smile while living in need”, the young woman states in the campaign. "I will work with energy in everything they ask of me, such as school support, assistance in the medicine dispensary, service in the children's dining room, maintenance work on the facilities, among others", she highlighted in the presentation of the initiative.
