An original work by the artist Pepe Dámaso will finally illustrate the poster for the San Ginés 2017 festivities, after the competition convened by the City Council was declared "void". In reality, ten works were submitted to the call, but "none with the minimum quality required to be part of the Municipal Art Gallery", according to sources from the City Council.
The decision was adopted unanimously by the jury, made up of the painters Rosa Vera and Rufina Santana, the writer Félix Hormiga, the director of the MIAC Castillo de San José and the director of the Pancho Lasso school, Manuel Perdomo.
The Department of Celebrations, directed by David Duarte, has thanked "the generosity of the artist Pepe Dámaso for donating a work created especially for these festivities". It was Dámaso himself who "has committed to the Arrecife City Council with his work"; which, according to its author, "symbolizes this city and its people".
Duarte has indicated that he maintains his intention to award the creativity of the advertising posters for the capital's various celebrations through public competition, something that he has assured is a "way of deepening citizen participation and strengthening the ties between citizens and public recreational and cultural activity". "However, Arrecife and its festivities deserve a quality poster and we respect the jury's decision", said the capital's Councilor for Festivities.
