The fishing vessel Santuario Barquereño has detected a small boat about 14 nautical miles northeast of Arrecife, according to the Lanzarote Emergency Consortium. Once detected, the fishing vessel Santuario Barquereño has remained next to the boat until the arrival of the Salvamar.
37 people of Maghrebi origin were traveling in the boat and in good health. The crew of the fishing boat gave them milk, cookies, some cans of sardines and water. According to José Cruz, a sailor on the boat, he explains that there was "a child of approximately 10 years old and all the other teenagers and some older". In addition, the occupants of the boat stated that "they had been at sea for five days."
Maritime Rescue has transferred them to Puerto Naos in Arrecife, where they have been assisted on land and will be assisted by the Red Cross.
