A new group of 42 immigrants, mostly men but also a mother and her young baby, have been rescued after calling for help by phone early this Sunday while sailing towards Lanzarote and they ran out of fuel about 40 kilometers north of the island, as confirmed to Efe by Maritime Rescue.
Their Sasemar 102 plane and their Talía rescue boat have been activated in search of the boat they were traveling in around eight in the morning, after the Regional Emergency and Security Coordinating Center 112 reported that it had received a call from its occupants but without providing precise details of their position.
The lack of information has led to attempts to speak by phone with the immigrants, although without success, from the Maritime Rescue center that was coordinating the operation, as they could not be located, but a new warning, this time from an informant residing in Spanish territory who had contact with them, has made it possible to clarify where they were exactly, so within a few minutes the Talía, which was not far from the place, was able to reach their position.
Once the members of the expedition, of Maghreb origin, were hoisted on board, and their boat was tied up to tow it to port, the Talía has set course for Lanzarote, where they are scheduled to land at the Commercial dock around 1:30 p.m., added from Maritime Rescue.
