The photographer and filmmaker from Granada based in Lanzarote Álex Casado has managed to capture an image rarely immortalized in Lanzarote: the takeoff of two EF-18 fighter jets from the Air Force from César Manrique airport.

As can be observed in the video, recorded and edited by Casado himself last February 19, the two planes advance along the runway simultaneously, creating a spectacular image and accompanied by epic music.

These are aircraft that arrived in the Spanish Army in the year 1986 and have two turbofan engines, which gives them greater power and agility in different missions, especially over the sea.

They can reach a speed of approximately 1,900 kilometers per hour and reach a flight altitude of more than 15,000 meters.

Regarding their combat capability, the EF-18s are capable of attacking targets on land, sea, and air and can launch short and long-range missiles, as well as launch laser and GPS-guided bombs. Likewise, it also has the possibility of launching cruise missiles, which have a range of 500 kilometers.

In the Canary Islands, Wing 46 established in Gando, in Gran Canaria, is the unit responsible for the defense of the archipelago. The Spanish Army is in the midst of a fleet renewal process, replacing the EF-18s with Eurofighters, aircraft that became operational in the country in 2003, even more sophisticated.
