The company Urbaser stated this Wednesday that in the fire that occurred in Zonzamas on Monday afternoon, they acted "quickly, avoiding personal injury and allowing control" of the flames. The extinguishing work meant that the fire "did not affect the facilities at any time", they clarified.
The team transferred to the landfill helped ensure that the most sensitive areas of the facility, which are the treatment plant and the anaerobic digestion area, were not affected thanks to the "risk prevention system that employees followed exhaustively and diligently", they reported.
Once the fire was over, which was extinguished at around 01.30 on Tuesday morning, the company also wanted to thank the "invaluable work" of the firefighters, the Lanzarote emergency teams and all the qualified personnel who, successfully, "helped to extinguish the fire without regretting human damage", they added. In addition, the Council supervised the extinction of the fire at all times and its collaboration was "essential to avoid major damage".
With the fire extinguished and the guarantee that no human damage had occurred, Urbaser set to work to restore the plant's operation as soon as possible and return to managing waste normally. Urbaser and the Council confirmed last Tuesday that the plant was "operational without it having been necessary to divert any waste to landfill".
