On August 9, 2024, it will be 50 years since Timanfaya was declared a National Park, a milestone that has allowed us to continue conserving its natural and cultural values, as several generations of Lanzarote residents did before.
From this month until August 2025, the Timanfaya National Park will celebrate its five decades with a program of exhibitions, talks and meetings that will allow the population to better understand its values.
The exhibitions that will take place in the Visitor and Interpretation Center of Mancha Blanca, every day, except holidays, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Among the exhibitions is Guardians of Timanfaya, an exhibition in homage to the staff who have contributed to the preservation of the Park, with photographs, testimonies and emblematic objects that will take place on August 10.
Also the Audiovisual Evolution of Timanfaya, a photographic and filmic journey that shows an unaltered landscape and the evolution of its environment. Its inauguration will be on December 20 at 6:00 p.m.
Regarding the conferences, which will take place in the same place, several will be held. One of them will be The natural environment: flora, fauna, geology and public use of the park, with the ornithologist Gustavo Tejera, the volcanologist Carmen Romero, the biologist and guide Rosa Betancort and the director-conservator of the Park, Pascual Gil. These conferences will take place on October 24 and 25 at 5:00 p.m.
Another of the conferences will be Geothermal energy in Timanfaya: How is the underground heat from volcanic activity used to generate sustainable energy in Timanfaya?, which will feature the expert David Astrain, professor at the Public University of Navarra. It will be in March 2025.
Finally, commemorative meetings will be held in different spaces. One of them will be the Tribute to Tinajo: Activities that combine awareness of the preservation of the landscape with local culture, which will feature music, parades, crafts, puppet shows and traditional cuisine). It will be held on February 22, 2025 in the Plaza de Tinajo from 12:00 p.m.
Also the Tribute to Yaiza: Multidisciplinary event that will bring us closer to the values of Timanfaya and allow residents to enjoy a day dedicated to their relationship with this territory. It will be in June 2025.
