The traditional mural in support of the Palestinian people located at the entrance of Costa Teguise, on the road connecting Arrecife with the tourist town, woke up this Sunday completely vandalized with white paint and several inscriptions of a fascist and xenophobic nature.

The mural, present since the beginning of the genocide in Palestine, has been largely covered with white paint. Three graffiti have appeared on it: one, located on the left, with the message "Pedro Sánchez son of a bitch" and two others in the central area with the texts "Out Islam" and "Pedro Sánchez son of a great bitch".

This mural had become a symbol of the solidarity of an important part of Lanzarote's society with the Palestinian people and a denunciation of the genocide that Israel is perpetrating in Gaza and the West Bank.

The events are of particular gravity as they are directed against a symbol of support for the Palestinian people and include messages directed against Islam, so the graffiti could constitute a hate crime.

Furthermore, the vandalism occurs in a particularly significant context, as the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, is currently staying at the official residence of La Mareta, located a few hundred meters from the place where the mural is located.

Lanzarote with Palestine strongly rejects this fascist and racist vandalism by Zionist neo-Nazis. The collective denounces that this attack not only aims to destroy a symbol of solidarity with the Palestinian people, but also to spread messages of hatred against the Muslim population. In this regard, they state: "The same ones who shout racist and Islamophobic slogans and who call the President of the Government 'son of a great bitch' are the ones who want to cover up the solidarity with Palestine that the Canary Islands people have shown since the beginning of the genocide."

Izquierda Unida de Lanzarote condemns the attack on the mural

From Izquierda Unida Canaria in Lanzarote, they express their "most absolute repulsion and condemnation of the intolerable fascist attack perpetrated against the mural in support of the Palestinian people in Costa Teguise."

From the party, they point out that "this act of vandalism is not simple material damage; it is a very serious hate crime full of racism and Islamophobia that directly attacks coexistence and the plurality of our island."

The messages of 'Out Islam' and the slogans of a far-right nature and insults seek to intimidate, sow hatred towards the Muslim population, and silence the active solidarity that the Canarian people have shown in an exemplary manner.

"We want to send all our support and total solidarity to the Lanzarote with Palestine collective. They will not succeed in erasing a symbol of dignity that denounces the genocide that the State of Israel is perpetrating against the population of Gaza and the West Bank," they add.

Finally, from Izquierda Unida they state that "in Lanzarote there is no room for fascism, nor for Islamophobia, nor for those who justify barbarism. Faced with their hate graffiti, we will respond with more memory, more humanity, and more unwavering solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people. They will not silence us."
