The property of one of the unfinished skeletons in Costa Teguise has contacted an eviction company to try to evict the families living on plot 214 in this coastal town of Lanzarote and build a luxury hotel.
Specifically, the property Toscolanz SL, engaged in real estate development, has contacted the company EZ Property Solutions, managed by Roberto Pérez, who was subject to a restraining order that prevented him from approaching the San Isidro neighborhood (Granadilla de Abona), in Tenerife. This judicial decision was based on the actions of Pérez and several company workers in a residential complex they were trying to evict in the town.
At the end of last year, Roberto Pérez was also arrested for allegedly coercing a civil guard agent, whom he allegedly threatened by shouting "faggot, I'm going to kill you," according to several regional media outlets.
Company sources told La Voz that they went to plot 214 in Costa Teguise on Wednesday afternoon to find out how many families lived in the unfinished homes before accepting and negotiating the terms with the property owner. The residents of the building stated that the eviction company's workers first showed up in the afternoon and then, as many people were working, they returned at night.
Around a hundred families live in these unfinished housing blocks, having ended up taking refuge in these unfinished homes due to the constant increase in rental prices on the island.
The company requested the eviction of the families in 2023 to carry out the luxury hotel complex Body, Mind & Health Hotel. This establishment will consist of "a careful selection of luxury villas," according to the project's website.
An unfinished project by Lanzagal Promotores
Last November 2022, the then Councilor for Urban Planning of the Teguise City Council and current mayor of the municipality, Olivia Duque, announced the contracting of the project to demolish plot 214 of the coastal town, after justice threatened with fines "against the personal assets" of the then mayor, Oswaldo Betancort, for failing to comply with the 2005 judicial ruling.
This building was left half-finished after a court ruling annulled the building permit in the early 2000s. Despite this, the owner Lanzagal Promotores refused to pay for the demolition of the properties and they have been waiting for two decades to be torn down, according to the Teguise town hall.
