The Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital, a center affiliated with the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, has incorporated cardiac magnetic resonance imaging into its portfolio of services. The Radiology and Cardiology departments have collaborated to launch this new diagnostic test that allows for a comprehensive approach to cardiac pathology
The incorporation of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging at Molina Orosa facilitates the study of patients with heart conditions and avoids them having to travel to the reference hospital in Gran Canaria or be referred to other centers for diagnostic evaluation, as was the case until now.
Since its launch, just a week ago, the team has conducted eight studies on patients, which have served to diagnose aortic insufficiency, dilated cardiomyopathies, and rule out intracardiac thrombi.
In-depth evaluation
The implementation of this test allows for the study of the heart's function and structure in a single examination. Furthermore, it offers specialists detailed images of the heart, its chambers, and valves, which facilitates a better evaluation of its functioning
On the other hand, this test is **key in the anatomical study of people with congenital heart disease**, in studies of ventricular function, in the assessment of cardiomyopathies, and in other cardiac function studies
Teamwork
The head of the Radiodiagnosis service, Heidy Sáenz, positively assesses the implementation of this technique, which allows for **expanding and improving the diagnostic capacity of the service**. Furthermore, she emphasizes that it is a team effort in which radiologists, technicians, and cardiologists work together to study pathologies that, without this test, could not be diagnosed.
For his part, the manager of the Lanzarote Health Services, Pablo Eguia, expresses his satisfaction with the implementation of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging at the Molina Orosa Hospital, given that it optimizes patient access to this technology for cardiological conditions. Likewise, he emphasizes that the incorporation of this new technique adds to the center's health technology equipment.
Specialized Training
In order to implement this technique, reduce waiting times, and avoid patient travel, physicians and technicians from the Radiodiagnosis service at Hospital Molina Orosa have undergone specific training at the reference hospitals of the autonomous community.
