Since this last week of August, progress is being made in the modernization of the urban image of Arrecife on its maritime front, in the surroundings of El Reducto beach, informs the City Council.
Yonathan de León, who has been present at the works, has confirmed that, since last Monday, after the celebration of the San Ginés festivities, "the companies awarded the works have continued their intervention in the section of terraces between the Arrecife Gran Hotel and the Hotel Lancelot, in front of the emblematic capital beach."
The first mayor has highlighted that "according to what was reported last July to the hospitality and commerce sector established in this area, the City Council would not affect the activity of the terraces with works during the month of August," coinciding with the San Ginés festivities. In these past weeks, "the participation of a large audience in the celebration of the patron saint events that have been based on El Reducto beach has been registered and it was not desired that the works on this front could affect businesses and terraces, as well as the safety of the public."
Now, once the celebrations are over, "the companies have a free hand from the Department of Public Works of the City Council, under the direct direction of the mayor, to focus their works in this area of the capital of Lanzarote," adds the Consistory.
Yonathan de León remarks that "currently the modernization works are underway on a section of Canalejas street, from Coronel Benz, to Almirante Boado Endeiza, the integral transformation of Valls de la Torre street, the modernization and pedestrianization of Avenida Fred Olsen, between the Hotel Lancelot building and Guenia Street, and a section of Manolo Millares street, from La Destila school to Antonio Zerolo school, on Guenia Street," he lists.
The first mayor has detailed that "all this urban action, where many premises dedicated to hospitality are concentrated and which have deployed terraces, has been coordinated to synchronously complete works on some streets, enable their opening to traffic - with the changes of direction planned in the circulation - and undertake from this week the works for the pedestrianization of the section of Avenida Fred Olsen, where the main hotels of the city are located and which in recent times has experienced a boom in the opening of premises for hospitality and restoration."
The mayor has detailed that "the works in Valls de la Torre, which is part of the same project and award of the Fred Olsen section, have made great progress on the new sidewalk with the placement of curb pavement on both sides of the road." "From this week, the awarded company is already working in the surroundings of the Hotel Lancelot, at the intersection towards Avenida Fred Olsen," points out de León.

"The residents in Valls de la Torre and El Greco streets are allowed access to their garages during the course of the works. The buildings located in the section of Avenida Fred Olsen that will be pedestrianized have all their accesses to garages through El Greco street, which has allowed this initiative to be adopted to prioritize the pedestrian," concludes the mayor.
