The Ministry of Health is considering the limitation of smoke-filled spaces with the new initiative it proposes: prohibiting smoking on the terraces of bars and restaurants and limiting disposable 'vapers'. The administration headed by Mónica García is considering the possibility of creating a new measure in the 'Comprehensive Plan for the Prevention and Control of Smoking 2021-2025', with new smoke-free spaces soon. A plan that has been worked on for 3 years and that may include the prohibition in spaces such as private cars or beaches.

"It is not yet known if this plan will also include these spaces", but the ministry's intention is to "see each of the assumptions" in order to expand these smoke-free environments and ensure that the habit of tobacco gradually moves away from society.

According to sources from the ministry, the regulation of 'vapers', especially disposable ones, a way of replacing cigarettes and nicotine that has become very fashionable among young people, will also be included. A practice that doctors have been advising against since they came on the market, due to the serious health risks involved. The Government considers that "the negative impact they have is twofold: on health and on the environment", the ABC newspaper highlighted. Therefore, they want to implement measures to "limit and regulate" these new devices and thus ensure that future generations come "free of tobacco", they say.

As revealed by the newspaper, the ministry still has to speak with all the agents involved before finalizing the definitive steps, but its intention is for the extension of prohibitions to begin as soon as possible. "We are going to review it and we are going to talk with all those affected and with all those who have something to say about this. But always putting health at the center and, of course, the health of minors as well", Mónica García pointed out.
