The Management of Health Services of the Lanzarote Health Area, attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, has launched consultations of different medical specialties at the Mala Local Health Center. The implementation of this measure aims to bring specialized care closer to the population in their area of residence.

From this month of February, specialists from the units of Pulmonology and Endocrinology of the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital have begun to hold consultations in this Primary Care center. This is an initiative jointly promoted by the medical management of the hospital and Primary Care, which is part of the strategy to improve accessibility to specialized healthcare on the island.

New specialists in Pulmonology, Endocrinology, and Dermatology

This project comes to reinforce and expand the experience initiated two years ago by the Cardiology service, which already conducts consultations in different health centers in Lanzarote, as well as Dermatology consultations, recently incorporated into Primary Care centers. In all cases, these measures have been possible thanks to the incorporation of new medical professionals in the Dermatology, Pulmonology, and Endocrinology services, which allows part of the care provided at the hospital to be decentralized and offer a more agile response to the population.

Likewise, and in line with this project, the Gynecology service is scheduled to begin consultations at the Tías Health Center in the first weeks of this month of February.

The implementation of this care model has already led to a significant reduction in waiting times, especially in the field of Cardiology, facilitating earlier evaluation and diagnosis of patients with possible cardiac pathologies and contributing to reducing pressure on hospital emergency services.

Improves accessibility

From the Management of Health Services and the Directorate of the Health Area, it is emphasized that the consultations that take place at the Local Clinic of Mala are aimed at the population of the entire island of Lanzarote, thus guaranteeing equitable access to specialized care.

The management team of Molina Orosa Hospital and the Primary Care Directorate highly value this initiative, and highlight that, in addition to improving accessibility and reducing waiting times, it favors greater coordination between care levels, improves communication between professionals in the Hospital and Primary Care fields, and strengthens the relationship with patients.
