The Earth Observatory, of the European Space Agency, has published this Monday on social networks several images of Lanzarote and La Graciosa from space during the mission called εpsilon, which began on February 13, 2026.

This mission is being carried out by astronaut Sophie Adenot along with her crewmates, NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway, as well as Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrei Fedyaev. The spacecraft, called SpaceX's Dragon, took off from Florida, in the United States.

The photographs, taken by astronaut Sophie Adenot, show with great detail the characteristics of both islands such as their towns and volcanoes.

In the caption, they point out that "this island was shaped by volcanic eruptions, and it is noticeable even from space, with its numerous craters and the dark lava fields of the national park".

As you will recall, Lanzarote is very often used by scientists to prepare future space missions due to the similarity of the terrain to that of the Moon or Mars. Furthermore, it is even used by teams from the European Space Agency during the PANGAEA training program.

"Ground activities include testing technological tools for field sampling and scientific analysis, as well as the Artemis lunar camera," they point out.

In fact, in the publication, they explain that one of the astronauts was trained in Lanzarote for the epsilon mission. This is Commander Sergey, from the International Space Agency.
