Technicians and operators from the Conservation and Maintenance team of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers have removed the elements of the Sculpture of Fertility damaged by the wind that lashed the island of Lanzarote this Tuesday and where maximum gusts of up to 84 kilometers per hour were recorded.

The Tourist Centers have adopted this measure after carrying out a technical inspection and assessing the damage suffered by the work erected by César Manrique. “We want to guarantee the safety of our tourists, visitors and workers, and the durability of a work of art that has become one of the most representative images of the island,” said the Entity's Councilor, Ángel Vázquez.

The staff of the Tourist Centers cordoned off the garden area of the Peña de Tajaste on which the sculpture sits to prevent people from accessing it, and used a crane to dismantle and remove the damaged elements.

The intervention has been carried out under the permanent supervision and in coordination with the Heritage Service of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.

In the coming days, the restoration of the work will be undertaken.
