The Arrecife circus, which the Local Police opened a file against for digging a trench in the ground and dumping its wastewater from caravans and facilities, has installed several tanks to manage it. This is what the organization itself has communicated to La Voz.
Given the seriousness of these discharges, the Arrecife City Council, through the Local Police, announced that it would report it to the Seprona (Nature Protection Service of the Civil Guard) for the possible criminal liability of the perpetrator/s, in addition to the administrative sanctions to be imposed by the Department of Infractions and Sanctions of the Arrecife City Council.
As explained by the circus, "the space excavated in the ground is not made with the purpose of dumping water directly into the soil, but rather it is part of the usual installation procedure: the tanks intended for the collection of water from the facilities are placed inside, and once placed, the space is covered."
On this occasion, during the transfer of its facilities from Fuerteventura to Lanzarote, they point out that said tanks "suffered damage that prevented their normal use. This circumstance was detected during the assembly work prior to the premiere of the show, on September 3 and 4."
Due to the proximity of the opening, which took place on Saturday, September 5, and the impossibility of immediately replacing the tanks during the weekend, they decided to take a "provisional solution" while its definitive resolution was being managed.
Furthermore, they point out that "the water from our facilities passes through a filtering system beforehand. For this reason, it does not correspond to the image of untreated sewage that some reports may suggest, nor have the strong bad odors attributed to this incident occurred."
In this way, they explain that this Monday, the first day without performances since its opening, "the organization had already started the necessary work to completely resolve the incident, including the intervention of a specialized truck for the extraction of waste."
Likewise, they assure that when the Civil Guard agents later went to the facilities, "they were able to verify that the extraction service was already working and that the incident was in the process of being resolved," something they explained to the agents.
"From the organization, we want to make it clear that at no time has there been any intention to carry out improper waste management nor to generate disturbances or harm to the environment. It has been an exceptional logistical incident caused by the damage suffered by the deposits during transport, in response to which action has been taken to correctly restore the facility in the shortest possible time," they state.
