The solar eclipse of August 12 is undoubtedly the most anticipated event of the year by astronomers; however, the phase of greatest interest, that is, total visibility, will not be visible from the Canary Islands.
For this reason, the Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Humanities of Lanzarote (ACIHL) is moving its research and scientific dissemination activity to the Iberian Peninsula, specifically to the Burgos town of Arija, with the added purpose of publicizing outside the Archipelago the work of science outreach that this association carries out in and from Lanzarote.
During the three intense days of August 11, 12, and 13, which include the Academic Meeting, organized jointly with the Royal European Academy of Doctors and the Arija City Council, Prof. Francisco González de Posada, President of the ACIHL, accompanied by distinguished Lanzarote scientists such as Prof. Abelardo Bethencourt Fernández, Prof. Jesús Martínez Frías, and Dr. Enrique de Ferra Fantín, will give lectures on the theme of the eclipse. The event will also feature presentations by a dozen other academics and the induction speeches of 4 new corresponding members of the ACIHL.
Said conference will have its inaugural session at 5:00 PM on August 11. It will also conclude on Thursday, August 13, with the closing session at 8:00 PM.
The afternoon-evening of August 12 will be dedicated to the observation and documentation of the eclipse and the Perseid meteor shower, or Tears of San Lorenzo, which will be guided by expert academics in these phenomena, which exceptionally on this occasion coincide on the same day with only a few hours difference.
