Spain is preparing for one of the three major astronomical events that will take place in the territory between 2026 and 2028. The first of them, in just three months: next August 12. During sunset, the first total solar eclipse visible from the Iberian Peninsula will take place, the first in more than a century. Although in the Canary Islands it will be partial, Lanzarote will have a privileged view, seeing the Sun covered by around 73.6%.

The National Geographic Institute, attached to the Ministry of Transport, has made public a website that collects all the details about this phenomenon unique. Following the calculations of the National Astronomical Observatory, it has already prepared for the trio of eclipses in Spain and has established a viewer that indicates how the eclipse will evolve depending on the geographical point of the country.

For example, this resource collects that the eclipse at its maximum can be seen from different points of the island, from north to south. It should be noted that in this case it does not contemplate buildings or vegetation, only the characteristics of the territory.

After this event, we will have to wait until August 2, 2027, to experience a new total solar eclipse from the peninsula. On this occasion, it will be experienced again from the Canary Islands in a partial way, with the Sun covered by almost 80%. Meanwhile, on January 26, 2028, there will be an annular solar eclipse, which will be seen partially from the archipelago and which will take place between 3:20 PM and 6:00 PM.
