The video of the young cyclists driving recklessly in Arrecife (LaProvincia)

Several cyclists have surprised the citizens of Arrecife by driving recklessly through various points of the capital of Lanzarote. The young people have published different videos on their Instagram account in which they appear doing wheelies or dodging cars through the streets of the capital of Conejera.

In the images, echoed by the newspaper La Provincia, one of them is seen, precisely on Manolo Millares street and in the surroundings of Parque José Ramírez Cerdá, lifting the front wheel of the bicycle and dodging at great speed the cars that circulate on the road. In addition, they appear circulating in the opposite direction, changing lanes in a continuous line, and as an added bonus, without using the mandatory helmet when driving.

These practices are apparently frequent for the social network user, el.mohaa._ and his friends, since they dedicate themselves to posing in several videos that fill the entire account of the social network. As can be seen in some of them, one drives with one foot resting on the bike he is driving, with his body out and the other placed on the handlebar of his companion's bicycle.

Sanctions for reckless driving with bicycles

According to the DGT, just like other vehicles in traffic, cyclists are also subject to fines if they do not comply with current regulations. Some of them are the following:

  • Not wearing a helmet when it is mandatory carries a fine of 200 euros
  • Performing dangerous maneuvers on a bicycle, such as riding without hands or lifting the front wheel, carries fines of up to 500 euros.
  • Invading sidewalks or pedestrian areas can bring sanctions ranging from 60 to 10,000 euros.
