The Guiniguada Theatre, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, has hosted the awards ceremony for the Educational Programs and Extracurricular Activities Service of the Ministry of Education, a call from the General Directorate of Management of Centers, Schooling and Complementary Services, coordinated by David Crego, and which, for the second consecutive year, has had the collaboration of the Vice-Ministry of Physical Activity and Sports of the regional Executive.

The event, which could be followed by streaming on the official YouTube channel of the Ministry, seeks to recognize the talent and effort of the educational community of the islands, whose members create cultural and sports products during the course within the different modalities of the call: Canarias a pie de foto (images), Origen (two-dimensional works), Inventando, crecemos (video clips), ¡A escena! (filmed theatrical pieces), Muévete (recordings of collective choreographies), Pausas activas (recordings of school physical dynamics) and Juegos y deportes en la tradición de Canarias (demonstration videos of autochthonous skills).

In this regard, the edition that is ending has set a record for participation, with 384 projects and a growth of 52% compared to the previous academic year, as reported by David Crego, who also thanked the support of the Vice-Minister of Sports and the Director General of Indigenous Sports, Ángel Sabroso and Lorena Hernández Labrador, who also attended the awards ceremony.

Thus, after counting 127 initiatives in the 2023/2024 academic year under the four initial projects, and experiencing 99% growth with the incorporation of the physical activity block last academic year, when 253 proposals were reached, the 2025/2026 period "represents a new milestone for which we should congratulate ourselves," stated the Director General.

In total, these 384 new projects were distributed mainly among Origen (115), Canarias a pie de foto (93), Juegos y Deportes en la tradición de Canarias (50), ¡A escena! (40), Pausas activas (36), Inventando, crecemos (25) and Muévete (25).

In cash and with great collaborations

It should be remembered that this initiative, which reaches all the islands, covers the stages of Early Childhood Education, Primary, Secondary, Baccalaureate, Vocational Training and Adult Education Centers (CEPA), including the participation of the Collective of Rural Schools (CER) and the Online Education Center (CEL) of the Canary Islands.

In the Early Childhood and Primary modality, the first prizes, endowed with 2,000 euros for the center, went to CEIP Puntagorda (Canarias a pie de foto), CEIP Plus Ultra (Origen), CEIP Bernabé Figueroa Umpiérrez (both in Inventing, we grow and Move), CEIP Oasis de Maspalomas (¡A escena!), CEIP Doctor Gregorio Chil y Naranjo (Active breaks) and CEIP Playa Blanca (Games and sports in the tradition of the Canary Islands). For their part, the second places in this modality, awarded one thousand euros, went to CER Granadilla de Abona, CEIP Casas de Veneguera, CEIP Príncipe Felipe (which doubled up in Inventing, we grow and Traditional games and sports), CEIP María Muñoz Mayor, CEP Doramas and CEIP Playa Blanca.

As for the Secondary, Baccalaureate, Vocational Training and CEPA block, the first positions went to IES San Marcos (Canarias a pie de foto), IES Amurga (Origen), IES Guía (Inventing, we grow), CEO Andrés Orozco (¡A escena!), IES Los Tarahales (Move), IES Profesor Martín Miranda (Active breaks) and IES Cairasco de Figueroa (Games and sports in the tradition of the Canary Islands), while the second prizes were awarded in this modality to IES Poeta Tomás Morales, La Isleta, La Vega de San José, Támara, La Matanza, Los Tarahales and Las Veredillas.

The gala, held at the Teatro Guiniguada in the capital of Gran Canaria, was hosted by the popular presenter Daniel Calero, who shared the stage with the Performing Arts students from IES Guía.

Once the awards were concluded, the public moved to the terrace of the Insular Library of Gran Canaria, where the Hospitality students from CIFP Felo Monzón Grau Bassas offered a catering service.

Finally, the design of the event's posters was carried out by the students of IES Los Tarahales, making this event "a prime example of participation and teamwork," according to David Crego.
