The San Bartolomé City Council celebrated this Friday a day full of symbolism and full of vindictive acts on the occasion of 8M. The town hall square hosted a massive central event, in which the manifesto was read by the Mararía Association, in which it was appealed to continue working to give "visibility to women and their rights."

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, wanted to thank the presence of all the citizens, who came en masse to commemorate this day. In addition, he pointed out that, "despite the progress made in recent times in terms of equality, they are not enough", so we have the "obligation to continue working as a society to achieve full and real equality.” In addition, he said that “to these achievements, we must give them a boost. And we have the responsibility to do so daily in our work, in our homes and in our environment.”

For her part, the Councilor for Equality, Mónica de León, stated that equality “is not just a matter for women” and acknowledged that vindictive days such as 8M "are an opportunity for our words to carry with them a commitment, with real and effective actions with which to eliminate the barriers of gender discrimination.”

The event also included the presence of students from CEIP Ajei, who carried out an activity to promote equality. The tower of the San Bartolomé Town Hall, the roundabout of the monument to the Communities and the Rebirth sculpture in Playa Honda, were illuminated in violet during the night in recognition of International Women's Day.
