The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Comprehensive Women's Care Service of the Department of Social Welfare, and in collaboration with the Arrecife City Council, organized this Saturday, November 23, the XII Race against Gender Violence Lanzarote 2024. The sporting event took place at the Fairgrounds and had the participation of 800 people.

The Councilor for Social Welfare and Inclusion of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Marci Acuña, highlighted the work and involvement of the institutions and educational centers that have prepared various actions to deploy in this activity. "This is a social claim because society will change when the new generations change, when education is definitively installed," he stressed.

"From the Island Corporation, we defend that we are with the women survivors, with the boys and girls who have suffered this sexist violence, and we say loud and clear that we are accompanying them so that this situation ends once and for all," emphasized the councilor.

The Councilor for Social Welfare of the Arrecife City Council, Maite Corujo, thanked the massive participation in this race, which "aimed to raise awareness, educate, and mobilize the population in this fight against violence, to promote values such as equality and respect."

The race started at 12:00 noon, consisted of a 2.8-kilometer route, and included the participation of other mayors and councilors from the organizing entities. This solidarity activity promotes equality between women and men, seeks to raise awareness in society about this social problem, and aims to lay the foundations for building a future free of violence.

The sporting event is part of the agenda of events commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is celebrated every November 25. Among which there are also plays, a self-defense workshop for women, and a demonstration in honor of the victims, with 40 being the number of people who have died in Spain so far this year due to this cause.
