Doctors from the José Molina Orosa Hospital gathered this Friday at the entrance of the Outpatient Clinics to protest against the draft framework statute that regulates their working conditions and demand a specific agreement from the Ministry of Health that recognizes their uniqueness and puts an end to their precariousness. This general strike has also been called in the rest of the country.
Five years after the last national strike caused by the exhaustion of the pandemic, the State Confederation of Medical Unions (CESM) and the Andalusian Medical Union (SMA) have called a strike throughout Spain despite the latest meetings of the Strike Committee to try to bring positions closer with the department headed by Mónica García regarding the reform of the framework statute that regulates the working conditions of healthcare personnel of the National Health System.
According to them, the document incorporates the mandatory exclusivity for specialist doctors in their first five years of contract in public healthcare and for heads of service, heads of section and coordinators, and introduces a professional classification system that equates them to the rest of the graduates, devaluing the specific training and responsibility of their group.
Likewise, it omits any reference to the regulation of retirement and the calculation of on-call hours for these purposes.
Reasons shared by the Medical Profession Forum - which includes, in addition to CESM, the General Council of Official Medical Associations CGCOM, the Federation of Spanish Medical Scientific Associations, Facme; the National Conference of Deans of Faculties of Medicine, CNDFM, and the State Council of Medical Students, CEEM-.
The complaints of the organizers contrast with what was maintained by the Minister of Health, Mónica García, who assured this Thursday that she continues the dialogue with all the unions and that she respects "all the demands", while defending a text that - in her opinion - "will respond to the needs of professionals".
On the day of the strike, gatherings have been called in different cities of almost a dozen autonomous communities, from Extremadura to La Rioja, passing through Cantabria and the Balearic Islands and the two Canary capitals.
In Madrid, the gathering is organized at 10:00 a.m. in front of Congress, convened by the Association of Doctors and Higher Graduates of Madrid (Amyts), an organization that is not among the organizers of the strike but shares the demands.
