A flight bound for Lanzarote was the victim of a serious air safety incident this Wednesday, December 31, after being targeted with a laser pointer shortly after taking off from Tenerife South Airport.
According to information from the official Air Traffic Controllers account on the social network X, the crew reported the incident during the aircraft's ascent phase, alerting that the light beam had been directed towards the cockpit. The corresponding protocol was immediately activated and the information was transferred to the Guardia Civil, including the approximate position from which the laser was allegedly emitted.
From the controllers' collective, they recall that these types of actions constitute a serious crime, as the use of laser pointers against aircraft can cause temporary or permanent blindness in pilots and even endanger flight safety.
