For years, Lanzarote has been an island whose name has traveled to almost every corner of the world. So much so, that a horse hurdle race in the United Kingdom bears its name, the Lanzarote Hurdle, as published by the outlet Racing TV.

This competition is held every year in January, and in this edition, the Iberian horse Lord and jockey James Bowen were the victors.

This hurdle race is held at Kempton Park Racecourse, on the outskirts of London.

The competition is named after a top National Hunt racehorse called Lanzarote, who lived between 1968 and 1977. Specifically, the equine was one of the best in jumping and hurdles.

Lanzarote won the Champion Hurdle in 1974 and **died after breaking a leg** early in the 1977 Cheltenham Gold Cup when he was only clearing fences for the fourth time

The animal was described as "a powerful horse on the circuit but discreet off it". Lanzarote won 23 out of 36 races and the platform Timeform places him among the ten best hurdlers of all time.
