This Thursday at 8:30 a.m., a conference focused on the ethical aspects of care in various environments was held in the Assembly Hall of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, organized by the Healthcare Ethics Committee of the Lanzarote Health Area. Under the slogan "Caring with dignity", this event brought together health professionals and representatives of various local associations to reflect on the challenges and responsibilities in the field of caring for vulnerable people.

The inauguration was in charge of Dr. Elisa Corujo Rodríguez, president of the Healthcare Ethics Committee, who highlighted "the importance of promoting a more humanized and ethical approach to health care, especially in times when the health system faces multiple challenges".

Moderated by Dr. Ana Cantalejo Robles, the first table focused on the analysis of hospital care, addressing critical situations such as ethical management in pediatrics, care for people in situations of frailty and dementia, as well as the care of patients with mental pathology. Among the speakers were Dr. Verónica Violant Holz and Dr. Anaís Rodríguez Cedrés, who emphasized the importance of seeing the patient as a person beyond their diagnosis.

The second table, moderated by nurse Victoria Castañeyra Góngora, explored the rights at the end of life, the ethical obligation to care and the need to consider care spaces as a public good. Among the speakers were Dr. Concha Gómez Cadenas and social worker Beatriz Arce Aguilar, who provided a comprehensive vision on the importance of respect for dignity in all stages of life.

The last session, moderated by Dr. Encarna Nicolás, included the participation of several local associations such as AFOL, ADISLAN, and AFA, which work directly in supporting families and people with special needs. This table highlighted the fundamental role of organizations in creating support networks for the community, highlighting the project "Calor y Café" as an example of a solidarity and collaborative initiative.

The conferences concluded with a space for exchanging experiences and proposals to improve the quality and ethics of care, not only within hospitals, but also in the community environment. The organizers called for continued work on policies to humanize care, promoting respect for the dignity and rights of each patient.

This event is part of an ongoing effort by the Lanzarote Health Area to promote ethical debate and reinforce the commitment of professionals to more humane and respectful care.
