The Lanzarote Futuro platform proposes a Special Plan for Famara, with the aim of "organizing its use, protecting its ecosystems and guaranteeing a sustainable experience" in one of the natural spaces most demanded by tourism on the island. This enclave "deserves to become a symbol of the island's respect for its natural environment."
Among the measures proposed for debate are:
-
Creation of a large parking lot on the outskirts of the town, to avoid pressure on the coastal environment.
-
Autonomous shuttle service that connects this parking lot with the different accesses to the beach. It should be electric and adapted to transport surfboards, promoting cleaner and more efficient mobility.
-
Smart parking system in the area parallel to the beach. Payment via app, integrated with tide and meteorological information, environmental regulations and hiking recommendations. Signage on the ground with striking biodegradable paint. Buried sensors and LPWAN communication to report free spaces.
-
Prohibition of caravans in the beach area, to reduce environmental impact, preserve the landscape and prioritize the comfort of daytime visitors.
-
Repair and beautification of the road parallel to the beach, from the town to the bungalows, as well as the one to the mill.
-
Reserved parking on this road only for surf schools accredited by the City Council and emergency vehicles.
-
Installation of elevated surveillance towers specially designed to integrate with the landscape, improving security without breaking the natural aesthetic.
-
Creation of “drop off” zones for unloading surf equipment.
-
Parking prohibition on the mill road, to reduce congestion and protect sensitive areas.
-
Construction of signposted paths and wooden walkways, from the main access points to the beach, inspired by sustainable models such as those in Las Landas (France).
-
Enabling a path from the parking lot to the beach, favoring an orderly and respectful access for pedestrians.
-
Restriction of access to the road that passes over the bungalows, to avoid excessive pressure on that area.
-
Service of secure storage of bicycles, including electric ones.
-
Use of attractive signage in wood and colors.

Caleta de Famara: recovering its most social essence
Likewise, the initiative also contemplates ideas for the town of Caleta de Famara. "We also propose a transformation of the town, integrating its original atmosphere with a friendly space for people, changing cars for trees and recovering a more social and less road environment," the platform states. In this sense, it points out "the great increase in cars" that pass through the town and the loss of "charm" of this space.
Similarly, it proposes the creation of housing spaces in nearby towns for people who work in the area to reduce "the total ecological footprint, alleviate the housing problem in part and give people a more concrete and close impression."
This initiative seeks "with discreet and well-integrated infrastructures" to improve the experience of those who enjoy Caleta de Famara and Famara beach. "Famara can become a benchmark for how tourism and environmental protection can coexist," they conclude.
A platform of ideas for a better future
The platform seeks to "contribute to positioning Lanzarote as a model of sustainability and resilience in island environments." In the open section of Debates on its website, they propose initiatives such as a "misnamed" ecotax, the search for energy self-sufficiency or a rapid decarbonization action plan for the island, among others. They also disseminate their initiatives on the Linkedin social network
Lanzarote Futuro, promoted by Gerd Leonhard and a group of professionals linked to Lanzarote, was born from the desire to collaborate to achieve a better future for the island.
