The Cabildo of Lanzarote has collected more than 3,200 tons of waste at the island's Clean Points during the first half of this year 2024.
The Clean Points Network, made up of five facilities located in Arrecife, Costa Teguise, Playa Blanca, Playa Honda and Puerto del Carmen, allows the collection and classification of waste that cannot be deposited in the usual containers of the municipalities, such as used oil, furniture and household goods, rubble, x-rays, paints or garden pruning remains. Likewise, paper and cardboard, cans, plastic and glass containers can also be deposited at these points.
The Councilor of the Waste Area, Domingo Cejas, has stressed the importance of continuing to encourage the participation of the population in the waste separation process. "Citizen collaboration is essential in the correct separation of waste from their own homes, which facilitates its subsequent treatment and recycling, contributing to the sustainability of our island."
Domingo Cejas recalls that the Clean Points are available to all residents free of charge, allowing the collection of large waste or special characteristics that require specific treatment, such as those that may be toxic. "This not only guarantees its proper recycling, but also protects the island's natural environment," adds the councilor.
Types of waste in figures
During the first semester of 2024, construction and demolition debris has been the most abundant waste in the Clean Points, reaching 1,800 tons. Bulky waste (furniture and appliances) has also shown significant figures, with 619 tons collected. Next, there are wood waste, which totaled 547 tons, and finally, biodegradable waste from pruning of gardens and parks, which reached 307 tons in this period.
