The Creciendo Social Association, together with Adepsi, Adislan, Lanzarotea, Frater, San Vicente Foundation, Aspercan, Sentirtea and Tinguafaya, groups that work to improve the quality of life of people with functional diversity, and with the collaboration of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Arrecife City Council, have organized a march to commemorate World Autism Awareness Day (April 2) that will be held next Saturday, April 6, in Arrecife.
With the aim of "supporting and making visible" people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), the Creciendo Association encourages all residents of Lanzarote "to take part in this event", which will start at 11:00 a.m. from the Arrecife City Council under the slogan 'Autism close to you', to finish in the Charco de San Ginés, where they will proceed to read the manifesto.
#AutismCloseToYou is the slogan chosen this year by Autism Spain to commemorate its World Day and aims to "make us see that autism is close to us even if we don't always see it or, perhaps, we don't want to see it." With a prevalence of 1 in 100 people, an autistic person may be our neighbor, a friend or family member, or a schoolmate of our child, and feeling that proximity helps us to empathize and commit, to listen to them and understand them, to value them and respect them, to know their needs and their rights and, ultimately, to create a more understanding and inclusive society.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects the communication, behavior, and social skills of people who suffer from it. It is characterized by a wide range of symptoms that can vary in intensity and presentation in each individual.
Some of the common symptoms of ASD include difficulties in verbal and non-verbal communication, difficulty maintaining conversations, repetitive patterns of behavior or restrictive interests, difficulties understanding and responding to social cues, sensory sensitivity, and difficulties regulating emotions.
It is important to note that ASD is a spectrum, which means that symptoms can manifest differently in each person and in different degrees of severity, and early treatment and intervention are essential to improve their quality of life.
The Creciendo Social Association also appreciates the commitment of the Yaiza City Council that this April 2, World Autism Awareness Day, will illuminate the Yaiza Mill in blue during the night to show its support for all people with ASD and give visibility to the cause, the Creciendo Association recalled.
