The Second Chance Law has achieved "a new life" for Luis Guillén, a resident of San Bartolomé (Lanzarote), who accumulated 96,000 euros of debt after losing his permanent job in 2008.
With more than 40 years at that time, he had difficulties finding work, despite his extensive experience. He began to chain temporary contracts and unemployment situations, which forced him to resort to small loans and revolving cards with which to cope with his vital expenses. Due to this, he was in an economic situation in which the amount he owed was greater than the amount he earned monthly, at which point he resorted to the Second Chance Law and the specialized company Canarias Sin Deuda.
Luis believes that his situation before the process was "very bad and quite chaotic" and says that "he could not cope with anything, so he felt defeated." "I recommend everyone who has this type of problem to go to them, because the treatment has been very cordial and very good and they advise you all the time," he asserts.
He explains that he has experienced the process with a "small doubt" as to whether it could work, because "these things have been little known in the Canary Islands." He encourages people who are considering taking advantage of the Second Chance Law to start and recommends them to "take it easy" and trust the advice of Canarias Sin Deuda. "It is worth venturing to have a second chance in life," he says.
For her part, the coordinator of the Lanzarote office, Lidia Rodríguez, explains that "Luis's total collaboration has been fundamental to carry out this process" and points out that his situation is "very common" in the Canary Islands, since many people have chained the economic problems that began during the 2008 crisis or the 2019 pandemic crisis.
Likewise, it has been possible to safeguard the vehicle so that Luis can "continue to move around the island in his search for employment."
