The Environment area of the Lanzarote Island Council has opened a sanctioning file for environmental infraction against two companies that organized an unauthorized party last Thursday in the western area of the Tinasoria Mountain, in the Protected Area of La Geria, and prevented, as the organizers had planned, the event from being repeated in successive days.
The Lanzarote Island Council thus follows the administrative process after the complaint filed last Saturday by agents of the Environment Service of the Island Council who, after surveillance and inspection work, verified that an infraction was being committed against the Land Law and Protected Natural Spaces of the Canary Islands, among other regulations, by carrying out an event without the necessary qualifying titles and for the emission of noise and accumulation of waste.
The president of the Lanzarote Island Council, Oswaldo Betancort, has been blunt in stating that “the Lanzarote Island Council will be forceful and will sanction all attacks that occur on our territory, whether carried out by individuals or companies. We will not allow our protected spaces to be used by unscrupulous people to gain followers on social networks at the cost of damaging our landscape. That is going to end immediately”
For his part, the Councilor for the Environment Area, Samuel Martín, has thanked the agents for their rapid action “because they carried out an investigation and field work that managed to prevent the event from being repeated on Saturday, as planned by the organization, and also allowed us to identify the companies responsible for the event. So I celebrate the speed of the agents of the Department of the Environment of the Lanzarote Island Council.”
The action of the Environment agents occurs after the dissemination on social networks of a video in which you could see around fifty young people participating in a party, with music from DJs, and “to carry out the act they installed two stars of about 2 meters high, which is the logo of the advertising brand, a board as a table, with a carpet and a tent”, according to the agents' complaint.
The sponsoring company, a jewelry brand based in Barcelona, organized this event, inviting several dozen young content creators, and subsequently hiring the services of another company based in Puerto del Carmen that was in charge of installing the tent and the rest of the accessories on Thursday, May 2 with the intention of maintaining the activities until Sunday, May 5, although finally after the action of the Environment of the Lanzarote Island Council they had to cancel the event from the same Saturday.
Even so, the agents verified that that same day “they had not yet removed the tent, the stars or the table and that they had left waste in the area such as plastics, papers and remains of glasses and glass bottles”, according to the Environment infraction report, and that still on Sunday, after another inspection, “both the company logo and the table” remained in the area. The Minister of the Environment, Samuel Martín, has ordered the removal on Monday of any element that continues in the area due to the aforementioned event.
