Ecologistas en Acción expresses its "extreme concern regarding the statements of the Councilor for Public Works of the Cabildo, Jacobo Medina González, in relation to his particular urgency in developing a multitude of road projects, which confirms that, also in this legislature, the mobility policy concerning collective public transport is still absent." "Modern cities offer the possibility of moving cheaply, with low pollution, quickly and by public transport, just the opposite of the Cabildo's policy," say Ecologistas en Acción.

With the drop in transport prices, many people opted for the bus, but now it is necessary to increase the frequency, punctuality and be able to reach the destination on time.

Ecologistas en Acción asks Mr. Medina to "not continue with an excessive mobile fleet and not encourage outdated projects, typical of other times." "Instead, we propose the creation of an efficient and modern collective public transport as the key to meeting citizen needs and contributing to solving part of the climate emergency," they state.

Ecologistas en Acción insists that "the difficulties of people who travel daily for work, as well as those who visit us, are not solved with more roads, but that the Cabildo must promote public transport with concrete measures such as metro buses that, according to needs, run in a circular and constant way along the North-South axis." This does not require infrastructure works, but improvements, such as providing shade to bus stops and adapting them to be safe points.

A modern mobility plan involves applying parameters of deconstruction of the mobile fleet, prioritizing the public, social mobility, the care of the Landscape and the treatment of roundabouts and octopuses. Therefore, we demand that the Cabildo have people with political responsibility prepared, aware and trained to complete cutting-edge environmental projects.

Ecologistas en Acción believes that "there should be an island debate on the types of transport suitable on the Island and offer all possible options. In particular, we demand that Mr. Medina present all his projects and devices and post them on the Cabildo's website. Thus, we can know, opine and mobilize, if we deem it so, before the projects are contracted."

The responsibility of Ecologistas en Acción is to care for and protect the islands and not leave them in the hands of those who disregard the people to whom they owe.

Finally, they demand "Mr. Medina not to contract projects, nor to tender new roads or extensions of existing ones, but to draft a Mobility Plan that prioritizes public transport -not the one contracted to a private company-, that jointly contemplates all actions in this matter and that takes into account the real limits of the island in all its variables, in order to preserve all the landscape values and cultural heritage. Otherwise, there will come a time when there will be no room for more cars or more roads in this Biosphere Reserve."
