A diver has captured the majestic image of a black stingray (Taeniura grabata) off the coast of Puerto del Carmen. In the images, published on social media by the diving company, the animal is seen swimming calmly over the seabed, passing through schools of fish.

The diver who captured the images could not believe his amazement at being able to see this animal so closely. "A spectacle, I couldn't believe how beautiful this moment was," he said.

The black stingray is a species that is mainly distributed throughout the Mediterranean Sea (from Tunisia to Egypt) and the eastern Atlantic (Canary Islands, from Mauritania to Angola and Cape Verde).

Its body is formed by a short, whip-shaped tail, rigid and with a strong, toxic, serrated stinger that it uses to defend itself. Its tail can cause serious injuries in case of contact, although it is an animal with a calm temperament and usually ignores the species it encounters.
