Yésica Trujillo is the new face of humor in the islands. The Tenerife native won the title in the grand finale of the first edition of the Lunácticxs competition, held last Monday at the Castillo de San José, after an intense and fun selection process that has lasted for almost a month with four qualifying galas
This grand final gala, hosted by the Master of Ceremonies, the genius from Lanzarote Kike Pérez, brought together the four finalists, Jacobo Santiago, Ana Marín, Rayco Marrero, and Trujillo herself, who managed to carve their way through the initial 25 contestants with talent, character, and a lot of humor.
The counselor of the Tourist Centers, Ángel Vázquez, congratulated Yésica Trujillo and all the participants “in a contest that confirms the healthy state of the humor talent pool in the Canary Islands”. “We are very proud to be part of an initiative that opens a window of opportunity for people’s dreams and serves as a launching pad to the firmament for talent with its own seal”.
Kike Pérez, Master of Ceremonies and mentor to the participants, for his part, declared to have had "an incredible experience. It is very gratifying to witness the growth of these four finalists, who have gone from sending a video to shining on stage. Yésica is a more than deserved winner and I am sure her humor will be much talked about. Congratulations to all four!".
Paco Chinea, from Estudios Multitrack, the event's production company, pointed out that "the public's response and the quality of the monologues show that Lunáticxs has come to stay. We are enormously grateful to the Tourist Centers for their faith in this project, and to CICAR for their logistical support. We close the first edition with the commitment to continue betting on comedy made in the Canary Islands."
A project driven by the CACT
The Lunáticxs contest is an initiative by Estudios Multitrack that has been made possible thanks to the call for cultural activities from the Centers of Art, Culture, and Tourism (CACT) of Lanzarote, which has also had the logistical support of CICAR.
The edition concludes by consolidating a reference space in Lanzarote for Canarian humor and looks to future events to continue discovering new voices of comedy in the archipelago
