The rally organized by Comisiones Obreras Lanzarote this May 1st at the Barceló Playa Blanca Hotel has been described as a “resounding success” by the general secretary of the Island Union, Alejandro Domínguez. During his speech, before the end of the event, Domínguez underlined the massive support of the Legal Representation of Workers (RLPT), as well as the active participation of the workers of the island, despite it being a festive day included in the labor calendar.
The union wanted to publicly thank “the involvement of those who, with their presence and commitment, have contributed to making our demands visible and strengthening the unity of the group in defense of our labor rights.” The event took place with total normality, reflecting, according to CCOO, “the capacity for mobilization and the spirit of solidarity of the working class in Lanzarote.”
During the reading of the union manifesto, several key demands were put on the table: the reduction of the weekly working day to improve the quality of life, the increase in wages to guarantee stability, the promotion of feminism as an axis of equality, and the strengthening of democracy and social dialogue to achieve decent jobs and access to housing.

In addition, the union did not fail to address international issues. CCOO Lanzarote joined the national condemnation of the continuation of the war in Ukraine after the Russian invasion, and demanded an end to the occupation in Palestine, the ethnic cleansing of its population, the genocide in Gaza and the indiscriminate attacks in the West Bank.
“We must defend the rights conquered by our grandparents, and without a doubt, we must continue improving the working conditions of our present and future,” it was remarked at the event.
From CCOO Lanzarote they emphasize that this broad citizen support not only legitimizes their demands, but also strongly promotes their commitment to the fight for decent, fair and equitable working conditions for all the workers of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
